Cooking Matters
Nutrition Educator
Cooking Matters is an organization that facilitates six-week long cooking courses with a focus on health eating on a budget. As a nutrition educator, I present lessons on various topics, such as whole grains, reading food labels, grocery store tours and reducing sugar intake. It has been a great way to strengthen my public speaking and teaching skills. I have thoroughly enjoyed interacting with the participants and helping to foster their learning.

Northshore YMCA
ACT! Program Assistant
ACT! Is a 12 week program for youth 8-14 years and their parents promoting health nutrition, activity and lifestyles developed in partnership with professionals at the Seattle Children’s Hospital and the Y of Greater Seattle. I volunteered with a RD to facilitate this program at the North Shore YMCA. Each week I would prepare materials for the class, help with a physical activity session, lead discussions with the parents and assist with the cooking portion. It was very rewarding to see the progress made by the families of the class and to support their goals of making healthier lifestyle changes.
